Overview

Concierge cards provide a service that handles requests on your behalf: restaurant reservations, event tickets, travel arrangements, gift sourcing and assistance while travelling. It is positioned as the card's defining benefit.

A good concierge is genuinely useful. Securing a table at a booked-out restaurant, sourcing tickets to a sold-out event, or rearranging travel from another time zone at short notice are real services with real value for someone whose time is scarce.

The difficulty is that most cardholders never use it. Concierge services on premium cards go substantially unused, which makes them one of the least reliable benefits to base a fee decision on. If you will not pick up the phone, the benefit is worth nothing regardless of quality.

Who should consider it

Frequent travellers who need assistance across time zones. Executives who genuinely delegate arrangements. Anyone who currently pays an assistant or agency for the same services.

Cardholders who like the idea of a concierge but will not use one should choose a card whose benefits are calculable instead.

Benefits

  • Assistance with reservations, tickets and travel arrangements
  • Support available while travelling, across time zones
  • Access to reserved allocations at some restaurants and events
  • Emergency assistance abroad including replacements and rebooking
  • Gift sourcing and delivery services
  • Genuine time saving for those who delegate

What is included, and what is not

Read the right-hand column first. It is the one that tends to surprise people later.

Included

  • Concierge service access per the card terms
  • Reservation and booking assistance
  • Travel arrangement support
  • Emergency assistance while travelling
  • The card's underlying reward and travel benefits

Not included

  • The cost of what the concierge books, which you pay
  • Any guarantee of availability at booked-out venues
  • Services outside the concierge's stated scope
  • Value if you do not use the service
  • Any benefit if you revolve a balance

Terms vary between providers and between plans from the same provider. The offer document you receive is what governs — we will walk you through it before you commit.

How it works with us

  1. 1 We total the benefits in rupees against the fee Vouchers, lounge visits, memberships and milestone rewards, added up honestly against what the card costs each year.
  2. 2 Only benefits you will actually use are counted A golf membership you will not use is worth zero, whatever the brochure values it at.
  3. 3 Eligibility checked before applying Premium cards have real income criteria and some are invitation-only. Applying without the profile marks your credit file for nothing.
  4. 4 Application supported with the right documentation Income evidence and existing relationship details, prepared once and properly.
  5. 5 Reviewed annually against actual usage A premium card is worth holding only while you use it. We revisit that each renewal rather than letting it run.

Important considerations

The things a brochure tends to leave out. Read these before you decide.

  • Be honest about whether you will call. Concierge usage rates on premium cards are low, and an unused service is worth nothing however capable it is.
  • Quality varies enormously between issuers. Some concierge desks are genuinely capable; others are a call centre that will search the internet for you.
  • The concierge books; you pay for what is booked. The service is included, not the restaurant or the tickets.
  • If the card has other calculable benefits — lounge access, milestone vouchers — assess the fee against those and treat the concierge as an upside.
  • For travellers, emergency assistance abroad is often the most genuinely valuable concierge function, and the one worth asking about specifically.

Documents required

  • PAN card
  • Aadhaar or other identity proof
  • Address proof
  • Income proof — Form 16, salary slips or filed returns
  • Bank statements for the last six months
  • Existing card and relationship details with the issuer
  • Net worth statement, for some invitation-only products

Frequently Asked Questions

What can a concierge actually do?

Reservations, event tickets, travel arrangements, gift sourcing and assistance while travelling. A capable desk can secure tables at booked-out restaurants through reserved allocations, and can rearrange travel at short notice from another time zone — which is genuinely useful when it happens.

Do most people use it?

No, and that is the honest problem with basing a fee decision on this benefit. Concierge usage rates on premium cards are low. If you will not pick up the phone, the service is worth nothing regardless of how good it is.

Do I pay for what the concierge books?

Yes. The service is included; the restaurant, the tickets and the flights are not. The concierge arranges and you pay for what is arranged.

Is the quality consistent across issuers?

No — it varies enormously. Some desks are genuinely capable with real supplier relationships; others amount to someone searching the internet on your behalf. Asking about the provider before assuming quality is worthwhile.

Should I choose a card for its concierge?

Only if you know you will use it. Otherwise, assess the fee against the card's calculable benefits — lounge access, vouchers, reward rates — and treat the concierge as an upside rather than a reason to pay.
