Overview

Hotel cards earn points in a hotel loyalty programme and frequently grant elite status as a card benefit. Points redeem for free nights, and status delivers upgrades, late checkout, breakfast and lounge access.

For a traveller who consistently stays with one group, the status benefit alone can outweigh the annual fee. Complimentary breakfast for two on twenty nights a year is a real and substantial number, and it accrues whether or not you redeem a single point.

The value collapses if your stays are spread across groups. Points in a programme you use twice a year accumulate too slowly for a meaningful redemption, and status you cannot use delivers nothing.

Who should consider it

Business travellers who stay frequently with one hotel group. Leisure travellers loyal to a particular brand. Anyone whose annual hotel nights justify pursuing status.

Travellers who book whichever hotel suits each trip are better served by a flexible travel card or straightforward cashback.

Terms vary between providers and between plans from the same provider. The offer document you receive is what governs — we will walk you through it before you commit.

How it works with us

  1. 1 We separate the two products first A forex card is prepaid and locks a rate. A travel credit card earns rewards on spending. Different problems, different answers.
  2. 2 Travel pattern drives the choice How often you fly, which airlines, whether you use lounges, and where you spend abroad. The card follows that, not the brochure.
  3. 3 Benefit value calculated in rupees Lounge visits, miles and insurance converted to a real number against a real annual fee.
  4. 4 Application matched to eligibility Premium travel cards have income criteria. We apply where the profile fits rather than collecting rejections.
  5. 5 Set up for full payment and safe use abroad Auto-debit in full, international usage enabled, and the fraud reporting numbers saved before you travel.

Important considerations

The things a brochure tends to leave out. Read these before you decide.

  • Status benefits accrue on every stay whether or not you redeem points. For a frequent stayer that alone can justify the fee.
  • Count your actual nights with the group. Below roughly ten a year, the status and points rarely recover the annual fee.
  • The annual free night certificate often covers most of the fee on its own — check the category restrictions on where it can be used.
  • Resort fees and taxes are frequently payable even on award stays. A free night is not always free.
  • If your bookings are spread across groups, a flexible travel card that earns transferable points is usually the better structure.

Documents required

  • PAN card
  • Passport, for forex cards and international usage
  • Aadhaar or other identity proof
  • Address proof
  • Income proof — salary slips, Form 16 or filed returns
  • Travel documents such as visa and tickets, for forex card loading

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the status worth more than the points?

For a frequent stayer, often yes. Complimentary breakfast, upgrades and late checkout accrue on every stay regardless of whether you redeem a single point, and across twenty nights a year that is a substantial rupee value.

How many nights make this worthwhile?

Roughly ten a year with the same group as a rough threshold, and more if the annual fee is high. Below that, points accumulate too slowly for a meaningful redemption and status benefits are used too rarely to justify the cost.

Does the free night certificate cover the fee?

Frequently most of it, which is why it is one of the more useful benefits on these cards. Check the category restrictions, because certificates are usually capped at a points value that limits which properties they can be used at.

Are award nights genuinely free?

Room rate, yes; resort fees and taxes are frequently still payable. On some properties those charges are substantial, so check before assuming a redemption is better value than a discounted cash rate.

What if I stay at different hotel groups?

Then a group-specific card is the wrong structure. A flexible travel card earning transferable points lets you accumulate in one place and move them where you need them, which suits travellers without brand loyalty.
