  • Existing conditions and medications should be declared before testing

What May Not Be Covered?

  • Any prediction of future cardiac events
  • Angiography and other invasive investigations
  • Treatment or medication

Overview

Cardiac screening assesses risk factors and cardiac function through a combination of blood tests, an electrocardiogram, and depending on the panel an echocardiogram or a stress test.

Cardiovascular disease presents late and presents seriously, and Indians develop it at younger ages and lower risk thresholds than many other populations. That combination is why screening earlier than international guidelines suggest is frequently recommended here.

Screening assesses risk; it does not predict events. A normal result reduces the likelihood of significant existing disease without guaranteeing anything, and interpretation always belongs with a doctor who can weigh the results against your history, examination and risk factors.

Who should consider it

Adults over thirty-five, or earlier with risk factors. Anyone with a family history of early cardiac events. People with diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol. Smokers. Anyone with symptoms, who should see a doctor rather than book a screening.

Benefits

  • Assesses risk before symptoms appear
  • Lipid profile identifies a modifiable risk factor directly
  • ECG detects rhythm and conduction abnormalities
  • Echocardiogram assesses structure and pumping function where included
  • Stress testing assesses function under exertion where included
  • Findings can prompt genuinely effective preventive action

What is included, and what is not

Read the right-hand column first. It is the one that tends to surprise people later.

Included

  • Lipid profile — cholesterol, triglycerides and fractions
  • Electrocardiogram
  • Blood pressure measurement
  • Blood sugar, as a cardiac risk factor
  • Echocardiogram, on comprehensive panels
  • Treadmill stress test, on comprehensive panels
  • Cardiologist consultation on most packages

Not included

  • Any prediction of future cardiac events
  • Angiography and other invasive investigations
  • Treatment or medication
  • Emergency assessment — symptoms need a doctor, not a booking
  • Diagnosis, which is a clinical decision

Terms vary between providers and between plans from the same provider. The offer document you receive is what governs — we will walk you through it before you commit.

How it works with us

  1. 1 We match the panel to your age and history A check-up appropriate at thirty is different from one at fifty-five. Family history changes it again.
  2. 2 Slot booked at a centre near you Partner laboratories and hospitals across cities, with home collection where the panel allows it.
  3. 3 Preparation instructions sent in advance Fasting requirements and medication timing. Getting these wrong is the most common reason a test has to be repeated.
  4. 4 Sample collection and reporting Reports delivered digitally, usually within 24 to 48 hours depending on the panel.
  5. 5 Doctor consultation to interpret the results A report is data, not a diagnosis. Interpretation belongs with a qualified doctor, and we arrange that.

Important considerations

The things a brochure tends to leave out. Read these before you decide.

  • If you have symptoms — chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations — see a doctor now rather than booking a screening. Screening is for people without symptoms.
  • Indians develop cardiovascular disease at younger ages and lower risk thresholds than many populations, which is why earlier screening is frequently recommended here.
  • A normal screening reduces the likelihood of significant existing disease. It does not predict what will happen, and it is not a guarantee.
  • The most valuable findings are usually the modifiable ones — cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar — because they can be acted on effectively.
  • A stress test has specific contraindications. Disclose your history so the centre can advise whether it is appropriate for you.

Documents required

  • Identity proof for registration at the centre
  • Age proof, where the package is age-specific
  • Previous test reports, where available for comparison
  • List of current medications
  • Insurance details, where the check-up is covered by a policy
  • Doctor's prescription, where specific tests require one

Frequently Asked Questions

Can screening predict a heart attack?

No. Screening assesses risk factors and detects existing abnormalities; it does not predict events. A normal result reduces the likelihood of significant existing disease without guaranteeing anything about the future. That distinction matters and is frequently misunderstood.

At what age should I start?

Frequently earlier than international guidelines suggest, because Indians develop cardiovascular disease at younger ages and at lower risk thresholds. Thirty-five is a common starting point, earlier with a family history of early cardiac events or with diabetes, hypertension or smoking.

What if I have chest pain?

See a doctor immediately rather than booking a screening. Screening is designed for people without symptoms. Symptoms require clinical assessment now, not an appointment next week.

Do I need an echocardiogram and a stress test?

That depends on your risk profile and is a clinical judgement. Basic screening — lipid profile, ECG, blood pressure — is appropriate for most people without symptoms. Extended testing is usually indicated by risk factors or by findings on the basic panel.

What is the most useful thing screening finds?

Usually the modifiable risk factors — cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar — because those can be acted on effectively. Finding and addressing them is where preventive cardiology actually delivers its benefit.
