Overview
Fuel cards offer accelerated rewards on petrol and diesel, along with a waiver of the fuel surcharge that applies to card transactions at pumps. For high-mileage drivers those two benefits together can be worth several thousand rupees a year.
The surcharge waiver is the more reliable of the two. Fuel transactions on ordinary cards attract a surcharge of roughly one per cent, and a card that waives it delivers that saving on every fill regardless of any reward programme.
The accelerated rewards are usually capped, monthly and often per transaction. Those caps are what determine whether the card is genuinely valuable to you, and they are frequently set at a level that suits moderate rather than heavy fuel spending.
Who should consider it
Drivers with substantial monthly fuel spending. Households running more than one vehicle. Anyone whose fuel spending is a meaningful share of their card usage.
Light drivers will rarely recover an annual fee through fuel benefits alone, and a general cashback card usually serves them better.

How it works with us
- 1 We start with how you actually spend Three months of statements tells us more than any preference. The right card follows the spending, not the advertising.
- 2 Reward value calculated in rupees, not points Points mean nothing until you know the redemption rate. We convert everything to a real percentage on your real spending.
- 3 Fee weighed against realistic earn An annual fee is certain; the rewards are not. We check whether your spending clears the fee before recommending anything.
- 4 Application matched to eligibility Each rejection marks your credit file. We apply where the profile fits rather than scattering applications.
- 5 Set up to be paid in full, automatically A full-balance auto-debit on the due date. Rewards are worth nothing beside revolving interest.
Important considerations
The things a brochure tends to leave out. Read these before you decide.
- Calculate your annual fuel spending and apply the caps. Most fuel benefits are capped monthly, and heavy drivers exhaust them well before month end.
- The surcharge waiver is the more dependable benefit. It applies to every eligible transaction within the cap regardless of any reward programme.
- Co-branded cards restrict the best rates to one fuel network. If that network is not convenient for you, the advantage disappears.
- Fuel bought through wallets or third-party apps frequently does not qualify. Pay at the pump directly.
- Light drivers rarely recover an annual fee through fuel benefits. Run the arithmetic on your actual consumption.

- Recent passport-size photograph
- Existing card statements, where applying against them
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the fuel surcharge waiver worth?
Roughly one per cent of your fuel spending, within the monthly cap. It is the most dependable benefit on these cards because it applies to every eligible transaction regardless of any reward programme, and for a heavy driver it alone can justify the card.
Why are the benefits capped?
Because uncapped fuel benefits would be expensive for issuers on high-consumption customers. Monthly and per-transaction caps are standard, and heavy drivers frequently exhaust them mid-month — which is why calculating against your actual consumption matters.
Should I take a co-branded fuel card?
Only if the partner network is genuinely convenient for you. Co-branded cards concentrate the best rates at one network, and if you routinely fill elsewhere the advantage does not exist.
Does paying through a wallet or app count?
Frequently not. Fuel purchased through wallets or third-party apps often falls outside both the surcharge waiver and the accelerated rewards. Paying at the pump directly with the card is what qualifies.
Is it worth it for a light driver?
Rarely. If your monthly fuel spending is modest, the benefits will not recover an annual fee, and a general cashback card that rewards all your spending will serve you better.
