What Our Plans Cover

Who Can Consider This Plan?

  • Children can usually be covered from 91 days, subject to insurer rules
  • Medical tests may be required above a threshold age or sum insured
  • Full and accurate disclosure of existing conditions, medication and family history
  • Tobacco and alcohol use must be declared — non-disclosure is the leading cause of rejected claims

What May Not Be Covered?

  • Days beyond the annual maximum, commonly 30 to 60 per year
  • Admissions inside the initial waiting period, usually 30 days
  • Pre-existing conditions inside their waiting period

Overview

Hospital cash pays a fixed sum for each day you are admitted. It is a benefit policy, not an indemnity one: the amount does not depend on the hospital bill, and no bill needs to be produced beyond proof of the admission.

Its purpose is to absorb the costs that surround a hospitalisation and never appear on the invoice — a family member's lost wages, travel and accommodation for a relative, a paid attendant, the household expenses that continue while you are not earning.

It also quietly covers the deductions your main policy makes: non-medical consumables, the co-payment share, the amount disallowed because the room exceeded a sub-limit. Those are real out-of-pocket costs, and a daily cash benefit is one of the few instruments that meets them.

Who should consider it

Self-employed people and daily-wage earners, for whom time in hospital is directly lost income. Households where one person would have to stop working to provide care. Anyone whose health policy carries a co-payment or a room rent limit, since the daily cash offsets exactly what those provisions deduct.

It is a small, cheap supplement. It is not a substitute for a hospitalisation policy, and nobody should buy it instead of one.

Benefits

  • A fixed daily amount, paid without reference to the hospital bill
  • Claims are simple — the discharge summary and bill establish the admission
  • Offsets the co-payment and room rent deductions your main policy makes
  • Covers non-medical consumables, which almost no indemnity policy pays
  • Payable alongside any other health policy without offset
  • Enhanced daily amount for ICU admission on most plans

What is covered, and what is not

Read the right-hand column first. It is the one that decides whether a claim is paid.

Typically covered

  • A fixed sum for each full day of hospitalisation
  • An enhanced sum for each day in intensive care, commonly double
  • A lump sum on admission for a specified surgery, on some plans
  • Convalescence benefit after a stay beyond a stated length
  • Accompanying-person benefit where the patient is a child, on some plans
  • Payable in addition to any indemnity claim on another policy

Typically not covered

  • The first day or two of every admission on most plans — a deductible in days
  • Days beyond the annual maximum, commonly 30 to 60 per year
  • Admissions inside the initial waiting period, usually 30 days
  • Pre-existing conditions inside their waiting period
  • Day-care procedures that do not involve an overnight stay
  • Admission primarily for evaluation, diagnostics or observation
  • Maternity, unless the plan expressly covers it

Inclusions and exclusions vary between providers and between plans from the same provider. The wording in your own policy document is what governs — we will walk you through it before you buy.

How it works with us

  1. 1 Tell us who is being covered Age, city, existing conditions and any cover you already hold. Two minutes, and it decides everything downstream.
  2. 2 We shortlist on structure, not price Room rent, co-payment, sub-limits and pre-existing waiting periods — the four things that decide what you actually get paid.
  3. 3 You see two or three options, with the trade-offs named Including what each one gives up. If your existing policy is already the right answer, we will tell you that.
  4. 4 Proposal and medicals We help you complete disclosure properly. A medical test, where required, is usually arranged at home.
  5. 5 Policy issued, and we stay on the file At claim time you call us, not a helpline. We prepare the file, submit it and chase the insurer until it settles.

Important considerations

The things a brochure tends to leave out. Read these before you decide.

  • The day deductible removes most short admissions from cover. If the plan excludes the first two days and the average stay is three, you are insuring one day in three.
  • Size the daily amount against what a day actually costs you — lost earnings plus attendant plus travel — rather than against the hospital bill.
  • Read the annual day cap. A generous daily rate with a thirty-day ceiling is a modest policy in a serious year.
  • This is a supplement. Buying it instead of hospitalisation cover would be a serious mistake, and it is a mistake we see.
  • Because it pays regardless of the bill, it is the natural offset to a co-payment or a room rent sub-limit on your main policy. Choose the daily amount with that specific job in mind.

Documents required

  • Completed proposal form with full medical disclosure
  • Identity proof — Aadhaar, passport, voter ID or driving licence
  • Address proof
  • PAN card
  • Recent passport-size photograph
  • Medical reports, where the insurer requires them at your age or sum insured
  • Existing policy copy, if you are porting

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I claim this and my health insurance for the same admission?

Yes. It is a benefit policy, so it pays the agreed daily amount in addition to whatever your indemnity policy settles. There is no offset between the two.

Do I need to submit hospital bills?

Only enough to establish the admission and its length — typically the discharge summary and the final bill. The benefit does not depend on the amounts, which is what makes these claims unusually quick.

Why does the policy exclude the first day or two?

It is a deductible expressed in days rather than rupees, and it keeps the premium low by removing very short admissions. It is also the term that most often disappoints buyers, so check it before you buy rather than at claim time.

How much daily benefit should I choose?

Work from what a day in hospital costs you rather than what it costs the hospital: earnings you lose, a relative's time, travel and accommodation, an attendant. For most salaried buyers that lands somewhere between ₹2,000 and ₹5,000 a day.

Is it worth having if my health policy has no co-payment?

Less so, but still useful. Non-medical consumables and the incidental costs around an admission are excluded from almost every indemnity policy regardless of co-payment, and this is one of the few products that meets them.
