What Our Plans Cover

Who Can Consider This Plan?

  • Children can usually be covered from 91 days, subject to insurer rules
  • Medical tests may be required above a threshold age or sum insured
  • Full and accurate disclosure of existing conditions, medication and family history
  • Tobacco and alcohol use must be declared — non-disclosure is the leading cause of rejected claims

What May Not Be Covered?

  • Pre-existing conditions inside the waiting period, which applies here as well
  • The initial 30-day waiting period, accidents excepted

Overview

A super top-up sits above a deductible. If the deductible is ₹5 lakh, the policy pays nothing until your covered hospitalisation costs in a policy year cross ₹5 lakh, and then it pays up to its own sum insured. Because it never pays the first and most frequent layer of claims, it is dramatically cheaper per rupee of cover than a base policy.

The word "super" marks an important distinction. An ordinary top-up applies its deductible to each claim separately, so three admissions of ₹2 lakh each never trigger it. A super top-up aggregates every claim in the year, so those same three admissions cross a ₹5 lakh deductible and the policy responds. For almost every buyer, the super version is the one worth having.

Used properly, this is the single most efficient structural decision available in health insurance: a modest base policy plus a large super top-up will usually buy two to three times the total cover of one large policy at the same premium.

Who should consider it

Anyone who already holds a base policy or an employer group cover and wants meaningfully more protection without doubling the premium. It is the standard answer to "my ₹5 lakh cover no longer feels like enough".

It suits employees with group cover particularly well: the group policy absorbs the deductible, and the super top-up provides the catastrophic layer that the group cover would never reach.

It is not a first policy. Without something underneath it — a base policy, group cover, or the willingness and liquidity to pay the deductible yourself — the deductible is a gap you carry personally.

Benefits

  • A very large sum insured for a fraction of what the same cover costs on a base policy
  • Aggregates every claim in the policy year against a single deductible
  • Sits over any existing cover — your own policy, an employer group policy, or both
  • Cashless at network hospitals once the deductible is crossed
  • Premium qualifies for Section 80D like any other health premium
  • Lets you keep a modest, cheap base policy instead of upgrading it expensively

What is covered, and what is not

Read the right-hand column first. It is the one that decides whether a claim is paid.

Typically covered

  • Hospitalisation costs above the deductible, up to the sum insured
  • Pre and post-hospitalisation, counted towards the aggregate
  • Day-care procedures, counted towards the aggregate
  • ICU charges above the deductible
  • Organ donor expenses for a covered transplant
  • Ambulance charges, where the plan provides for them
  • Restoration on some plans, though it matters less at this layer

Typically not covered

  • Everything below the deductible — this is the design, not a defect
  • Pre-existing conditions inside the waiting period, which applies here as well
  • The initial 30-day waiting period, accidents excepted
  • Named ailments inside their own waiting period
  • Claims not admissible under the policy's own terms, even if the base policy paid them
  • Maternity on most super top-up plans
  • Non-medical consumables

Inclusions and exclusions vary between providers and between plans from the same provider. The wording in your own policy document is what governs — we will walk you through it before you buy.

How it works with us

  1. 1 Tell us who is being covered Age, city, existing conditions and any cover you already hold. Two minutes, and it decides everything downstream.
  2. 2 We shortlist on structure, not price Room rent, co-payment, sub-limits and pre-existing waiting periods — the four things that decide what you actually get paid.
  3. 3 You see two or three options, with the trade-offs named Including what each one gives up. If your existing policy is already the right answer, we will tell you that.
  4. 4 Proposal and medicals We help you complete disclosure properly. A medical test, where required, is usually arranged at home.
  5. 5 Policy issued, and we stay on the file At claim time you call us, not a helpline. We prepare the file, submit it and chase the insurer until it settles.

Important considerations

The things a brochure tends to leave out. Read these before you decide.

  • Match the deductible to cover you actually have. A ₹5 lakh deductible above a ₹3 lakh base policy leaves a ₹2 lakh gap you fund yourself.
  • Check that it is a super top-up and not a plain top-up. The aggregate-versus-per-claim distinction is the difference between a policy that responds and one that rarely does.
  • Waiting periods run on this policy independently. Buying it years after the base policy means its own clock starts late — another argument for buying both early.
  • If your deductible rests on employer cover, remember the employer cover can disappear. Hold enough of your own base policy to stand behind the deductible.
  • Admissibility is decided under this policy's terms. A claim the base policy paid is not automatically payable here, so read both documents together.

Documents required

  • Completed proposal form with full medical disclosure
  • Identity proof — Aadhaar, passport, voter ID or driving licence
  • Address proof
  • PAN card
  • Recent passport-size photograph
  • Medical reports, where the insurer requires them at your age or sum insured
  • Existing policy copy, if you are porting

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a top-up and a super top-up?

A top-up applies the deductible to each claim separately; a super top-up applies it to the total of all claims in the policy year. Three admissions of ₹2 lakh never cross a ₹5 lakh per-claim deductible, but they comfortably cross an aggregate one. In practice the super version is the one worth buying.

Can I buy this without any other health policy?

You can, but then you are the one funding the deductible out of savings. It works as a deliberate choice for someone with substantial liquidity; for everyone else, hold a base policy underneath it.

Can it sit above my employer's group cover?

Yes, and it is one of the most efficient uses of the product — the group policy absorbs the routine layer and the super top-up provides the catastrophic one. The caveat is that group cover ends with the job, so keep some of your own cover behind the deductible.

Does it have its own waiting periods?

Yes. It is a separate policy with its own initial, named-ailment and pre-existing waiting periods, and they run from the date this policy starts rather than from your base policy.

Is it really cheaper than simply increasing my base cover?

Substantially, and the gap widens as the sum insured rises. Because it never pays the frequent first layer of claims, the same rupee of cover costs far less. Run both quotes and compare total cover per rupee of premium — the difference is usually decisive.
